End Date

Project Code
NE/L001578/1

Background:

Transaction costs are one of the main challenges for smallholders and communities in accessing international carbon and other, nascent, ecosystem services (ES) markets. In partnership with the Plan Vivo Foundation, this project tested how best to cost effectively monitor small farms and ensure a higher proportion of the money goes to farmers rather than project management costs.

Using cutting-edge scientific analysis, with a novel application of choice experiments, researchers tested the practicalities of different approaches with users and deliverers of ecosystems credit offsets in three different locations: Mexico, Uganda and Sri Lanka.
