ESPA insights on modelling approaches

Ecosystem service models should allow planning of changes in land use, management and other activities to enhance ecosystem services and/or to minimise loss of these services. There are many ecosystem service models and a survey during the ESPA-WISER project showed confusion among decision makers about which to use. This project provided guidance for decision makers about the range of models available, the types of services modelled, the scientific basis of these models, and ultimately how to choose the most appropriate ecosystem service model for the decisions being made.

Together with ROF-2017-18-02, this project funded the production of a guidebook on ecosystem service modelling. Professor Bullock led previous research related to ecosystem service modelling in NE/L001322/1.
